| Welcome to SimCon |
| |
|
SimCon's products, WinFPT and FPT
are a powerful suite of tools for testing, quality assurance, migration and re-engineering of Fortran programs.
|
Fortran is used to design space vehicles, aircraft, nuclear power plant, bridges...
Sometimes millions of lines of code are involved. This code is valuable. Our mission is to protect
the investment.
Space vehicles, aircraft, ships and stuctures have been lost because of errors in Fortran programs.
We seek to prevent such loss.
Fortran is a living and evolving language. The new standards are younger than C++, Java and Python.
SimCon's tools migrate code to new environments and provide programming support for those who
work with modern Fortran.

|
Units and Dimensions:
SimCon is carrying out research on automatic identification and checking of the physical
units and dimensions of the variables in a Fortran program. The tools form part of FPT, and
preliminary releases are under test by CSC at Airbus Filton.
|
|
FPGA and Parallel Programming:
Research on automatic fine-grain parallel programming of FPGAs and multi-core systems
is being carried out in collaboration with Liverpool Hope University and The University of Cape Town.
Algorithms for parallelisation and for fixed-point scaled fraction programming,
first developed for the AD10 simulation computer, will be applied to FPGAs.

|
SimCon carries out consultancy in migration, software engineering and software quality assurance. All of the
consultants have more than 25 years experience of scientific programming, and we have
worked on a wide range of applications including military and civil aircraft, space vehicles, radar,
medical diagnostic tools and idustrial process control.
We can migrate legacy systems to modern hardware, achieving significant savings in maintenance costs and
removing the need to train staff in obsolete software environments.

|
SimCon has a long-standing and close relationship with IQS Solutions (Pty) Ltd.
in Simon's Town, South Africa. IQS and SimCon are currently collaborating on the migration of a
major real-time radar control system, and IQS also has an important rôle in the
Karoo Array Telescope (KAT) project.
|
 |
|
SimCon has close associations with Liverpool Hope University
and The University of Cape Town. We are engaged in several joint
projects, for preparation of programs for high performance computing, and for analysis of physical units
and dimensions in code.
